Child Protection At Your Event - Putting Minds At Rest
Commissioning a professional photographer, such as Snap Happy, at your event, is legal and above board.
A CRB check on me, Sophie Callahan, or any of my team can be arranged if you feel that you require this.
A risk assessment when planning an event should include photography at the event and a decision should be made by the organiser as to how photography guidelines should be implemented.
If you as the organiser are atall worried about allowing a photographer to cover your event, I suggest that you might want to issue me and my team with identification which we can display at all times, such as a badge or card.
It is a good idea to state that a photographer will be present at the event on any flyers, advertisements or leaflets about the event. Announcements at the event can also be made that a photographer is in attendance and will be photographing competitors unless asked otherwise.
If you can book Snap Happy far enough in advance, it is also a good idea if you inform competitors and parents that a photographer will be present at the event, perhaps including a 'consent to photography' section on entry forms if this is applicable. If not, perhaps getting them to sign a consent form on arrival would be another idea.
Below is a sample consent form, as used by Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU):
